The Indonesian women’s national team defeated Timor Leste 6-0 in the 2025 AFF U-16 Championship on Wednesday (August 20) at Manahan Stadium. Check the scorers and lineups here.
The AFF U16 Women’s Championship between the Indonesian national team and Timor Leste ended 6-0 at Manahan Stadium, Solo, on Wednesday, August 20th. Nasywa Salsabilla was the star of the Garuda Pertiwi’s victory, scoring a hat trick and leading her team to the top of Group A.
Determining victory in the first match of the 2025 AFF U16 Women’s Championship, Scheunemann put his best players on display. These included twin sisters Jazlyn Kayla Firyal and Jezlyn Kayla Azkha. In addition, Syafia Tristalia Chorlienka, Nasywa Salsabilla Fattah, Shifana Rizka Nadhifa, and Indira Fatima also played.
Timor Leste also fielded its star players. Coached by Indonesian tactician Emral Abus, Timor Leste fielded Ferelia Sousa Silva Soriano, Marilia da Costa Xavier, and Leliana Lopes Silva.
From the start of the match, the Garuda Pertiwi squad immediately implemented an attacking game and high pressing. Several chances were immediately created, including two free kicks from Jazlyn. Indira also found herself one-on-one with goalkeeper Viviane Jeronimo Guterres, but failed to convert.
The deadlock was broken in the 15th minute when Jezlyn’s measured pass was finished by Nasywa. Four minutes later, a long-range free kick from Jazlyn sailed past Viviane into the Timor Leste goal.
Realizing that his team’s play wasn’t going according to plan, Emral replaced Cialna Corte Real with Nivania Soares Correia in the 24th minute. However, Timor Leste’s goal was breached again by Nasywa’s shot from a rebound.
Two minutes later, Indonesia’s lead increased. This time, it was Jezlyn who added her name to the scoresheet after receiving a through ball from Indira.
Unfortunately, Jezlyn then suffered an ankle injury when her foot landed incorrectly while passing a Timor Leste player. Scheunemann then selected Diva Aulia Putri as a substitute.
The decision to bring Diva on was also a masterstroke. Shortly after coming onto the field, Diva provided an assist for Nasywa’s goal. Thus, Nasywa completed her hat trick in the first half.
Entering the second half, Indonesia continued to apply pressure to the Timor Leste defense. Nasywa had another goal in the 53rd minute, but it was disallowed for offside.
Nasywa had two more chances to add to her tally. Unfortunately, both of her chances were saved by Viviane.
Indonesia’s sixth goal finally came in the 63rd minute. Having failed to score, Nasywa provided the assist for Syafia Chorlienka’s goal.
There were no further goals until referee Cha Min-ji from South Korea blew the final whistle. This victory marked Indonesia’s second in the history of the AFF U16 Women’s Championship. The first was a 2-0 victory over Cambodia, thanks to two goals from Firanda Djunaidi in the 2018 tournament.
With this result, Indonesia temporarily tops Group A with three points. This result also gives Indonesia the advantage to face Malaysia on August 24th. Timor Leste will first play Malaysia on August 22nd.
